Solar Collector Air Systems

Solar collection systems with air as transfer fluid is basically glazing walls that preheat air streams. They are used for space heating, often as an innovative part of combined heating and ventilation systems. For heating recirculated air, solar panels receive direct sunlight and heat the air that is circulated through them and back to the building. The transpired collector, which uses a dark collection surface with perforated metal plates to heat the air just behind the plate surface, is very effective in preheating outside or ventilation air.

Transpired solar collectors are ideal for industrial and commercial buildings with large ventilation requirements and have proven to be highly successful for manufacturing facilities. But they are applicable wherever outside air must be heated. Installations have included schools, warehouses, shipping facilities, and even corridor ventilation for high-rise apartments.

The collectors can be integrated in the building design, either on the facade or on the roof.
