Healthy, Eco-efficient Building Materials and Ventilation

In order to ensure a sound and comfortable indoor climate, that is acceptable levels of humidity, particle concentration, air temperature, and air quality, it is essential to use proper building materials and ventilation in the building. Many building materials emit compounds and smells that can irritate and affect the people using the facilities, so low-emission materials and sufficient air exchange is important. Still ventilation consumes energy and exhausts the warm air, so in order to establish low energy consumption as well as comfortable indoor climate, clearly a balance is needed.

Several elements are relevant in regard to a comfortable and eco-efficient indoor climate: insulation and low energy windows to mitigate transmission losses, low emission building materials to reduce ventilation needs, and lastly ventilation systems that reduce particle concentrations and at the same time optimise air exchange and heat transfer.
