Individual heating
The heating system is based on individual efficient natural gas boilers in each dwelling combined with solar energy with individual storage tanks. Hot water at an average temperature of 70ºC is supplied to the radiators system in each dwelling. Solar thermal collectors supply 65% of the energy coverage for the domestic hot water demand, which lies in the area of 155,000 kWh/year. The solar panels are placed on the roof of each block, a total of roughly 130 m2 and connected to a large storage tank through a heat exchanger from which the hot water is distributed to all the individual storage tanks. The solar collectors are in most cases facing south and are installed with a 50º slope from the horizontal to achieve optimum performance.
Each dwelling is equipped with a differential thermostat and electro-valve that control and monitor the hot water temperature. The dwellings are connected to a central control system that monitors the temperature of the water in the storage tank and in the solar hot water system. A twilight switch for the central system turns off as the water temperature from the solar collectors drops below the temperature in the storage tank.
The system allows great temperature stability for hot water and heating as well as low energy consumption. The remainder of the heating demand comes from a combined gas boiler to supply heating and hot water in each dwelling, which provides the flexibility and reliability that ensures the indoor comfort. The main advantage of the watertight circuit in each dwelling is the supply of oxygen and extraction of the fumes inside the boilers, therefore achieving optimum performance. The use of heat plate exchangers provides hot water supply of the buildings at a maximum speed, compared to traditional
exchangers.
