Valakampiai – Renovation success stories in Lithuania

This object is three-floor dwelling house with 39 apartments. The total area of the building is 2,117 m2. The main reason of ineffective energy usage in this house was the fact that it was built as a summerhouse in 1966, and was foreseen to be used only during warm season. That is why the thermal resistance of the old and thin walls and ground floors of the building were lower than the normative requirements.
The windows in the house covered rather big area, so it caused high heat losses. As the ventilation system was not sufficient, there was high humidity level in the building and it was the reason of mould formation in the flats. Heat and hot water were produced in the local boiler house; however natural gas boilers were of very poor uneconomic conditions and required steady exploitation.
Therefore energy audit and investment project were accomplished for this dwelling house in 1999. In order to elimi-nate existing problems, several solutions were suggested. It was decided to install fully automated new natural gas boilers, to isolate external walls and floor of the background and to change windows.
