Domestic hot water production with combined solar and district heating

A prime element of the residential building “tune up” in Brescia is the solar heating plant for the hot water production, which via the integration with the heating system is connected to the district heating network. The new heat system eliminated the centralised hot water production, which has become unnecessary. Now the energy is supplied by the solar collection water system in summer, and by district heating during winter, which is optimised by implementing two local storing heat exchangers installed in three common rooms at the first floor of each block. The local storing heat exchangers serve all the apartments of the related block. In each local storing room two heat storing tanks have been located:

Solar Storage
Block Tank 1  Tank 2
Block 1 4.000 liters 2.000 liters
Block 2 4.000 liters 2.000 liters
Block 3 3.000 liters 1.500 liters

The solar collection panels have been installed on the roof of each block:

Block 1 97 m²
Block 2 102 m²
Block 3 62 m²

The solar system is provided with an automatic regulation and monitoring system of the temperatures; this is a DDC type too and is connected to the central unit of the EMS.
