Solar water panels with tele monitoring and ”Solar Guarantee”

The 165 m2 solar collectors for domestic hot water (DHW) have been mounted on a metallic framework and put on the roof of two buildings. The orientation is south and the horizontal inclination is 30o. A 8,000 litres water storage for the solar energy is installed and connected to the natural gas heating boiler and is located in the boiler room.

The estimated annual solar production is 92,470 kWh with a productivity of 560 kWh/m2.

The estimated yearly CO2 emission saving is 18.8 tonnes.

The solar performance is monitored with the innovative monitoring system ”Solar Guarantee result” (GRS – Garantie de Résultats Solaries). The solar panels supplier, the design team, and the enterprise in charge of the maintenance must pay if the solar installation production is lower than estimated at the beginning of the project.

The solar panels produced 30,600 kWh from June to December 2003, which is a bit less than expected. This is partly due to fur on the heat exchanger which affected production in August and September, and partly due to wrong balancing of the network. Both these problems are solved and energy production is expected to follow the illustration below:
