The renewable energy system of the entire building complex is based on a central boiler that is fuelled by biomass, which is regarded CO2 neutral, primarily in the shape of wooden pellets. The boiler can also be fuelled by oil, however oil is only used as back up to meet peak demands. When the generator is implemented, the system will be connected to the local grid in order to offset fluctuations in electricity demand.

The system is made up of two separate boilers with capacities of 200 kW and 60 kW, respectively. The 200 kW boiler is the main heat supplier, whereas the small boiler is activated in peak hours. Moreover two boilers enable the community to have just one boiler running in order to close down the other boiler for cleaning and tuning every year.
The central heating is supported by a solar collection system for space heating and domestic hot water in each of the five small groupings. The solar collectors are dimensioned to cover the bulk of the demand in summertime so that the main boiler in the central heating system can close down for a few months and just run on the small 60 kW boiler.
Moreover individual measurement of the heat, water, and electricity consumption was installed in each dwelling, the Energy Guard, as well as an energy management system that ensures reliable and consistent energy supply.
