Prefabricated CO2 neutral rooftop dwelling
![]() |
The CO2 neutral rooftop apartment is designed with an energy use including operation of fans and pumps which is only 48 kWh/m2 - half the size of the allowed energy use in new build housing according to the new Danish energy rules, which by 1.1.2006 reduces the allowed energy use in new build housing to 96 kWh/m2. These figures depend on the employment of a solar DHW system and a minor photovoltaic 0.5 kWp installation. If the PV installation is increased to 2.5 kWp, a complete neutral CO2 status is obtainable.
This means that it is not necessary to connect the apartment to an external, separate heating supply system.
The prototype development has been supported by the EU Demohouse project, The Copenhagen Urban Ecology Fund, The Danish Energy Agency and Elkraft-PSO together with a group of sponsors lead by VELUX in Denmark.
