Cold bridges and air tightness

Blower door test of a housing unit |
The rooftop dwelling was developed for industrialised housing constructions.
Accordingly there has been strong focus on construction, assembling details as
well as air tightness.
Cold bridges in constructions can result in considerable heat losses. In the
rooftop dwelling the cold bridges between wall and ceiling, wall and floor etc.
are sought eliminated by optimisation of the joint details keeping energy in
focus.
Low air tightness in buildings will also lead to a considerable
energy-consumption. In the dwelling there has been focus on a high level of air
tightness so the heat losses caused by air leaking constructions are minimised.
The rooftop dwelling has air tightness equal to a natural air exchange of
maximum 0.05/hour which is only 50% of the demands for a new building according
to the new energy directives from 1 January 2006.
The industrial production process also means that it has been relatively simple
to focus on air tightness and cold bridges.
