A system has been develop for handling of basic household waste, comprised of uncomplicated, public utility environmental stations in which the waste is sorted into eight fractions. Furthermore there is communal composting of waste in the communal grounds.

The aim is to reduce the residual waste to approx. 60% of the original volume.

Residents and caretakers receive instruction on use of the system in order to ensure optimal source sorting of waste by each household.
